In der Ausstellung URBAN ENCOUNTERS im CSR.ART (21.06.-29.07.2023) wurden zwei der Skulpturen begleitenden C-Prints auf Papier präsentiert, welche die tragbare Skulptur von Ana Rajcevic visualisieren und die Idee hinter der Skulptur verdeutlichen. Die Fotografien sind jeweils verso mit Bleistift signiert. Bild/Blattgröße 50x 40 cm. Zusammenarbeit mit dem Fotografen Fernando Lessa und dem Modell Anna Tatton. Gerahmt unter Glas und ausgestellt in einem Passepartout, 66,5 x 56,5 cm.

BESCHREIBUNG:

Die Frage, was der Mensch ist, ist untrennbar mit der Frage verbunden, was das Tier ist. Die Geschichte des Menschen ist die Geschichte seiner eigenen Animalität, aber auch die Geschichte der Praktiken, die er anwendet, um sich von dieser Animalität zu distanzieren. Die Serie Animal The Other Side of Evolution erforscht die Idee der Trennung und Verbindung zwischen Mensch und Tier und symbolisiert gleichzeitig eine imaginäre Evolution oder die andere Seite der Evolution, in der sich der Mensch im Einklang mit seinem natürlichen Lebensraum entwickelt hat. Es erinnert uns daran, dass der Mensch letztlich ein Teil des Tierreichs ist. Es suggeriert eine Welt, in der der Mensch nicht davon besessen ist, die Natur zu seinem eigenen Vorteil zu überwinden, sondern sich stattdessen von neuartigen natürlichen Prozessen formen und verändern lässt. Das Projekt untersuchte die neuen Mutationsmöglichkeiten, um ein zeitgenössisches Kreuzbild von Mensch und Tier zu entwickeln, das ein atemporales, übergeordnetes Wesen jenseits von Vergangenheit und Zukunft suggeriert. Ana Rajcevics Skulpturen befinden sich in der ständigen Sammlung des Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum New York.

DESCRIPTION:

The question of what man is is inextricably linked to the question of what the animal is. The history of man is the history of his own animality, but also the history of the practices he uses to distance himself from this animality. The series Animal The Other Side of Evolution explores the idea of separation and connection between humans and animals while symbolising an imaginary evolution or the other side of evolution in which humans have evolved in harmony with their natural habitat. It reminds us that humans are ultimately part of the animal kingdom. It suggests a world in which humans are not obsessed with overcoming nature for their own benefit, but instead allow themselves to be moulded and changed by novel natural processes. The project explored the new possibilities of mutation to develop a contemporary cross image of man and animal that suggests an atemporal, superior being beyond past and future. Ana Rajcevic’s sculptures are in the permanent collection of the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum New York.
