Ein Pinselstrich, ein Farbfleck, eine zeichnerische Geste – mit solchen und anderen Bildelementen der abstrakten Malerei befasst sich Eilike Schlenkhoff. Dabei betreibt sie eine künstlerische Camouflage, die mit einer überraschenden Umwertung der bildnerischen Mittel einhergeht: Mit spürbarer Lust am Experiment arbeitet sie an einer Überwindung vermeintlicher Gegensätze, denn das Abstrakte wird plötzlich zum dinghaften Objekt, gewinnt an Raum, verändert seinen Zustand, seine Bedeutung. Grundlage ihrer Bildfindungen ist fast immer eine monochrome Fläche, die zum Resonanzboden vieldeutiger Erscheinungen wird. In den letzten Jahren ist daraus ein komplexer malerischer Kosmos entstanden, der immer wieder neue Bildsensationen hervorbringt.

A brushstroke, a splash of paint, a drawn gesture – these and other visual elements of abstract painting have induced many artists to undertake intensive explorations. Eilike Schlenkhoff also devotes herself to these kinds of fundamental forms of painting, but she pursues a sort of artistic camouflage that goes hand-in-hand with a surprising reevaluation of the means of creating pictures: taking a palpable pleasure in experimentation, she works on overcoming supposed opposites, as the abstract suddenly becomes a material object, takes on dimension, and alters its state, its meaning. In recent years this has led to the development of a complex pictorial cosmos full of ambiguous, surprising sensations.
