“Paula Klien’s works are the result of the cooperation between the artist and a creative elemental force. Klien cedes part of her authorship to the element water, which determines the running directions of the ink and thus brings an unexpected dynamic to the paper. Thus, following the Taoist teachings that place the five elements, wood, fire, metal, water and earth at the centre to describe the so-called nature, Klien embarks on the path of this spiritual worldview. She uses the active power of the water on the paper and the ink. It creates a portal into a transcendent visual world created by human and non-human actors together.”

The Digigraphie is a contemporary process of engraving. For Paula Klien it begins with a drawing in Chinese ink which is than scanned, manipulated digitally and printed in limited quantities determined by the artist. In Paula’s artworks this technique opened the possibility to integrate her ample repertoire of references which she photographed for years, such as details of glitters and shades or textures of branches and wool. Folded over their own initial images, the Mirror effect creates a kaleidoscopic mirage, a view that seems to come from the unconscious and yearns for interpretations, which raises analogies to Rorschach’s projective thinking.
