Andreas Kurus

Andreas Kurus wurde 1973 in Heidelberg geboren. Kurus ist das Gegenteil vom kosmopolitischen und getriebenen Künstler. Von kurpfälzerischer Bodenständigkeit arbeitet er weit ab vom Rummel der Kunstmetropolen dieser Welt und lässt Sammler aus Paris und Berlin zu sich ins Atelier kommen. Seine abstrakten Bilder sind unbetitelt, ein Mittel um nicht über Gegenständlichkeit oder Betitelungen korrumpiert zu werden. Chiffren und Schlieren ziehen sich durch nahezu monochrome Bildlandschaften. Man kann Anklänge an Monet oder Cy Twombly, aber auch an écriture automatique der Surrealisten ausmachen.

Nicht das Abbilden  von Realitäten, sondern Abstraktion und das Spirituelle und Symbolische, das sich hinter dem Konkreten verbirgt, ist das Ansinnen von Kurus. Die großformatigen Bilder überraschen mit einem außergewöhnlichen Effekt, die einer speziellen Auftragstechnik geschuldet sind: Mehrere Schichten Kunstharz, die mit Acryl- und Ölfarben, Aquarellkreiden, Wachsmalstiften und Bleistift überarbeitet werden und somit die Bilder in einer “3D”-Optik erscheinen lassen.

Andreas Kurus was born 973 in Heidelberg. Kurus is the opposite of the cosmopolitan and driven artist. He works far away from the hustle and bustle of the art metropolises of the world and lets collectors from Paris and Berlin come to his studio. His abstract paintings are untitled, a means of not being corrupted by figuration or titles. Ciphers and streaks run through almost monochrome pictorial landscapes. One can make out echoes of Monet or Cy Twombly, but also of the écriture automatique of the Surrealists.

It is not the depiction of realities, but abstraction and the spiritual and symbolic concealed behind the concrete that is Kurus’ intention. The large-format pictures surprise with an extraordinary effect that is owed to a special application technique: Several layers of synthetic resin, which are reworked with acrylic and oil paints, watercolour chalks, wax crayons and pencils, give the pictures a “3D” appearance.
